In The Beginning
RS Commercial Services started life on April 4th 1991. We started by servicing and repairing tail-lifts in the garage of the local Scania dealer, which led to other work. This comprised of welding and fabricating, fitting new lifts, body and trailer repairs. Meanwhile, my brother worked in the sales department for a large Vauxhall dealership and he got the company some work fitting tow bars.
We then started fabricating, made to measure roof racks and side frails for carrying glass and windows. Instead of painting all of the metal work which was on the outside of the vans, we had it hot dip galvanised. Customers were really pleased with the results, years on and their vans have no rust to worry about and no extra costs involved.
We then started ply-lining new vans. These were all cut out in my garage at home because it was a lot cleaner than the Scania garage. Then one Thursday, the fleet salesman at Hartwells in Norwich phoned and asked whether I could help him. He had to have six vans fully ply-lined by the Monday afternoon. I said “No problem”. It put me in a bit of a muddle and got him out of one, but I always try my best to accommodate customer’s requirements and reach their deadlines. This was way back in 1993. After that I got all of Hartwells ply-lining work and more besides and still do to this very day. After that particular job, word got around and we started getting work from Holden Renault, Robinsons VW of Norwich and Thurlow Nunn in all their branches at Fakenham, Dereham and Kings Lynn. This then led to other types of work, such as installing racking, shelving, windows, seats and roof racks. We then started to receive work to fit out mobile workshops, breakdown vans, minibus conversions and fitting disabled facilities in vans, minibuses and cars.
Over the years we have grown from strength to strength. We changed the name of the company to R S Van Interiors in January 2004. Today, our premises are on the Bowthorpe Industrial Estate, right next to the main ring road. All the relevant details can be found on our Contact page. We can arrange to collect your van, complete the work you have requested and deliver the van back to you. In certain circumstances a courtesy van is available, if required. In fact, if it can go in a van or on a van, we will gladly meet the challenge. All vans are different and valuable, as are our customers, so we always start with a clean canvas. We always say to our customers “It’s your van, you will be working from it, you tell us what you want and where you want it and we will do it, no problem”.
